James Johnson

About The Book

Searching for the Promised Land is the overcoming racial oppression memoir of James T. Johnson’s life. Born in Abbeville, Alabama, in 1946, James grew up hearing painful stories of lynching in the South, and the abuse his aunt suffered. These experiences made him vow never to return home. After years of moving between cities, he found himself drawn back to Alabama, still searching for a sense of peace and belonging. Despite facing rejection and unfair treatment, James never gave up as he described in his autobiography about family legacy. His faith in God’s promise, “I will cause those who wished you harm to bless you”, gave him strength to keep going, which also became the main reason for writing his faith-based book on racism.
